Hi everyone,
Sorry for my brief hiatus I was on VACATION! But I hope everyone had an amazing and meaningful holiday. Here is some exciting news that I wanted to post about and share with everyone. Dr. Oz (my absolute favorite doctor and show) wore a pair of nursing scrubs from my favorite medical scrubs company. They were bright red for Christmas and he looked so great in them. He came out and yelled "Who likes my scrubs!?" and I definitely did. If Dr. Oz is wearing scrubs from this medical scrubs company then these must be designer scrubs, and they are! Because with this scrub company you get to be the designer, send any photo you want and they'll print it on the pocket of a scrub. Try it, it's totally fun and patients love it too!

Happy Cyber Monday
Hi All,
I hope you had a great weekend and that your bellies are still full from Thanksgiving eating. I did some great shopping on Black Friday. Because I was upstate for the holiday with my family I was nearby Woodbury Commens, so we faced the crowds and shopped. It was so nuts. There were so many people there, but the sales were great as always, and I got a ton of stuff. Today though is just as good because it is Cyber Monday! It is basically Black Friday but for online shopping. My favorite Nursing Scrubs company is still offering free shipping for Holiday Season. And on top of that if you are in the market for some designer scrubs , their Photo printed tops are 20% off! It's a great deal and plus there are so many other options for scrub uniforms on their website that are priced so well to begin with!!!
Enjoy Your Shopping!

Just wanted to take the time to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful for my family and my amazing job and friends. I'm happy that I have the ability to touch people's lives everyday! Someone once told me that a nurse is an angel in nursing scrubs and comfortable shoes, and knowing that makes me feel so great. Thanks you!
Now, who's excited for TURKEY?!?

Don't let hospital restrictions get you down
I know that many hospitals are now making rules about nursing scrubs. They are putting restrictions into effect concerning the color of medical scrubs worn in each department of the hospital. I wanted to get some feedback from followers or readers about how they feel about this... Honestly I find it rather upsetting that nurses can no longer express themselves as they please. Especially because very often fun patterns can make nurses seem more approachable to patients. But to those nurses who have been restricted by their departments there are always others way to express oneself even with solid medical scrubs. Just because you are now limited doesn't mean you can't stand out. Certain scrub companies offer designer scrubs that have little details that make your uniform more individual. Whether it is a cute puff sleeve or small ruffle- it could make all the difference! So don't let it get you down...there's always a way to let your personality shine through!

Post Halloween Post
Hey everyone, hope you had a nice Halloween. I saw some pretty funny costumes. I went to the parade downtown for a little because I had a friend from out of town visiting and she wanted to go. I usually don't go because it's too intense for me. But I actually had a lot of fun. I dressed up as a hippie and my friend was Snooki. There were a ton of costumes from the Jersey Shore. I also saw a ton of Chilean Miners- so crazy that so many people thought to dress up as that! Anyway I had a lot of fun. I usually spend my days off from work in sweats as I try to take a break from my medical scrubs. But this past weekend I had fun dressing up- it was a fun transformation from nursing scrubs to hippie flower girl!

Halloween

I really love Halloween. Ever since I was little I loved dressing up. I think the doctor and nurse costumes sold in those costume stores are hilarious. First off the name tags on those costumes are ridiculous like Nurse Anita Lay and Dr. Seymour Bush- oh gosh. A few of the nurses I work with go with the sexy nurse costume on Halloween, but what they don't realize is that they don't have to wait until Halloween to feel like a sexy nurse. This scrub uniform company has amazing medical scrubs that will allow you to feel great every day of the year! Especially now that they offer a second designer scrubs line called Recessionista - with amazing nursing scrubs at a lower price- there's no excuse to not feel your best every day!
Happy Halloween!

I just saw the movie Social Network and it's crazy how all this facebook stuff started. I don't know who I side with in the whole "Whose idea was it?" debacle, but I know that I'm glad someone created Facebook. It is an amazing way to bring people together. Like my favorite nursing scrubs company's facebook page just started a great discussion board! They asked all their fans to post funny stories that happened to them while on the job. I've been reading them and they are making me laugh so hard! The person who posts the funniest story will win 20% off their next nursing scrubs purchase. Doing this brings all these nurses from different places together and really builds a community!

Great New Scrub Line
I found out some great news from a friend's blog
That same great nursing scrubs company that I wrote about in my last post just posted a new line called Recessionista. It's a more affordable line of medical scrubs than their original line. But these nursing scrubs are so well fitted and greatly designed that you would never guess they were so inexpensive. You got to check them out! Not only would you be making a great purchase for you but at the same time would be supporting a company deeply committed to keeping production and manufacturing here in the United States in order to save American jobs!

Today, held in the amazing city of New York, was a rally to Save the Garment Center. For those of you who do not know, the Garment Center is the heart of New York and is the district that has helped name New York the Fashion Capital of the world! The streets of this fashion district are lined with small businesses and factories that allow designers' dreams to come alive. Today, however, this district that has given new immigrants and entrepreneurs jobs for years- is struggling to survive. Heading the campaign to Save the Garment Center is non other than renowned fashion designer Nanette Lepore- who proudly boasts her "Made in New York" label. Among the many speakers-ranging from designers to politicians- was a factory owner who is carrying on his father-in-law's manufacturing business. He spoke about the importance of supporting the American economy by taking it upon ourselves to buy American made goods. He and his daughter have started a line of medical scrubs. This nursing scrub company is amazing! They have started in right here in New York City and do all the manufacturing on site. They offer both women's nursing scrubs and men's nursing scrubs. As consumers it is out job to search out and buy American made items over those that were produced overseas. So, as a nurse I will take the initiative and buy from this scrub company - by doing that I know that I will be supporting the much needed Garment Center and the American Economy at large!

Great Scrubs
These medical scrubs I found on a blog called Fashion Emergency- A Nurse's Quest For Style are amazing. I have a few pairs now- they fit great, feel so so comfortable, have tons of pockets, all the necessary colors and best of all a little flare. They offer graphic pockets- everything from breast cancer awareness flowers to teddy bear graphics- they are so amazing! Also you could upload your own photo and they print it on a pocket for you- such an innovative idea for nursing scrubs!!

Just found this great article posted on a blog called Mouth to Mouth- A Nurse's Expression.
The article in Business News Daily discusses five amazing businesses that are supporting the American economy by fighting the impulse to outsource. Check out the section called "Scrubbing up," a description of a family owned scrub company solely based and produced in New York City's Garment Center. To read the article, click here.

Uniform Fun!
My hospital recently decided to further their uniform requirements. Now each floor/department must wear a specific SOLID color. I used to have fun with my scrubs- everyday I wore a different color sometimes even a pattern. But now I am stuck wearing hunter green scrubs for the rest of my career. Now I realize more than ever how important my scrubs are to me. My shifts seem more dull now that I literally wear the same thing in the same color EVERYDAY. Patients always have hard times remembering nurses names and the variation in our uniforms always helped, but now that we are an army in identical color scrubs- we got nothin'
THANKFULLY, I found this incredible company that sells original, unique, and cool nursing scrubs. The special part of this company that sets them apart from other scrub companies is that they offer graphic pockets. Their team of graphic designers designed these amazing pockets that you choose for the pocket of your scrub. Everything from cute sayings, to breast cancer awareness flowers- graphics for all personality types and departments. Best of all these graphics give you the perfect amount of expression and they are still accepted in hospitals like mine that require solid uniforms. Right now I have three pairs, and even though they are all Hunter green each scrub is a different style with a different graphic. Next I'm going to order their photo printed pockets- this option allows you to send them a photo and they print it on a pocket for you- I'm sending a picture of my dog that I always carry around and show my patients (in the picture he's wearing a stethoscope around his neck- makes everyone smile)

A New Look For Hospital Gowns

My favorite designer Diane Von Furstenberg uses her talents to revamp the traditional hospital gown for cancer patients at Cleveland Clinic. A project that she has been working on for some time now, has finally reached these grateful patients. Aside from brightening the usual gowns with her colorful prints and fun designs, DVF redesigns these gowns to give the cancer patients the comfort they deserve. These full coverage gowns have brought so many smiles to patients' faces. Thanks DVF! Click here to view the full article.

Pockets Pockets and More Pockets

As a nurse I am ALWAYS on the hunt for the scrub company that offers the tops with the most pockets. It's not so easy to find because either the scrubs have tons of pockets but they're ugly OR they're cute but aren't functional at all. Luckily I found these medical scrubs!
This company pairs together functionality and style using the extra pockets as a canvas for design. You can choose from one of their many graphics or upload a photograph of your own to be printed on the chest pocket. Aside from offering the perfect amount of personality and design this printed pocket actually sits on another pocket giving you more room to store your things. There are also two deep pockets on the bottom of each scrub top! I'm so glad I found this company!

Uniform Changes
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-y7SMILRHGs53TJ7NVWX1xNlq7r8ZwBR2o8q3BANv6uPjKL-hVCKEdqQwhoTorD1IGymmzCLThK8N97-zMZDoZ5iIhgvKWvYnPMyrdzy0O-NiQs_de89OGfRkdZEytPm3bIfN5mjZDXZO/s320/nurse.bmp)
Recently hospitals have been trying different tactics in order for patients to better distinguish between nurses, doctors, and hospital staff. The usual tactic has been to color code departments in the hospital so patients can differentiate a nurse from a cleaner based on uniform color. However, a JFK Medical Center in Atlantis Florida had a totally new (or old) approach. For eight weeks, the Medical Center had their nurses wear the old-fashioned nursing uniforms including everything from starched dresses to white head caps. A recent article suggests that the uniform change has had a great affect on patient-nurse relationships especially among the older patients who find familiarity in the classic uniform.

Scrub Those Hands
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiC8TDjh_GgIci0bkyA2MPFwd1Q4msd01PapX3irEAaHDoGt8rXl67lavHHQrDTBSJUojbTG5E28bhsEFg688wYYhsfhC8CKWPC0BeS4Ut7KEkivgmuMI2Ss7ZeTHPtib8CKXyLNXSUUX-T/s320/GN-3888_L.jpg)
Here's a cute little gimmicky gift for a nurse or for yourself. Washing hands is super important and hand sanitizing stations have been installed basically everywhere. Soap and water take time (it takes 20 seconds of scrubbing to kill bacteria) especially if your a nurse like me, you're constantly on the run and don't always have the time to run to the bathroom and scrub up. This cute personal hand sanitizer is perfect for nurses- it fits perfectly in your pocket and comes in a bottle that would look really cute with your nursing scrubs!
I Heart Chocolate
![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikf2gOvalVzRlbBtmVapT9POeq9Ek6WZxnAUiElvXJ4hWuBSSZtFx3mXZFgzpq7eVJ7RIwtDpNgcc9QSHoK28LREx8KGlUDhaqkB2HV2OgObCDmyJYiFnZJTg-nJ-dljb0q6u6tXmFGDUF/s320/chocolate.png)
A study done in Harvard Medical School shows that moderate consumption of chocolate could prevent heart failure and other cardiovascular diseases. Out of a study of 31,823 women, those who ate 1-3 servings of chocolate per month and those who ate 1-2 servings of chocolate per week were less prone to heart failure. However, those who consumed more than the moderate amount of chocolate tested similarly to those women who did not consume chocolate at all. Sweet results, huh...
Enjoy your chocolate...just in moderation:)

CAPS stand out!
A 63 year old nurse named Linda McPherson, of Ogden, Utah- still proudly wears her "Nurse's Cap" to work everyday. She believes it is the only lasting symbol of the Nursing profession and that is truly special. During her graduation from Nursing School, Linda's mother placed the cap on her daughter's head in a symbolic "capping" ceremony. McPherson proudly wears her cap to keep the tradition alive and to keep sacred what it truly means to be a nurse. She definitely stands out!

Scope It Out
Here's a fun way to bring some personality and color to your boring everyday uniform. Just take whatever stethoscope you use and buy a funky color electrical tape. Tape the stethoscope making it all one color or striping it. Colors are in style especially now during the summer and if you work in pediatrics, children love it. Just another way to keep things fresh and perhaps even ease the connection between you and your patients.

What ever happened to the sexy nurse in the itty-bitty uniform, with a slightly opened zipper, and white tights...If your thinking Halloween costume, think again. There's no reason a nurse can't look great and feel great, while still being dressed for work. Ok, so maybe not exactly a white mini dress and fish nets, but come on, there has to be a way to be in uniform but still stick out. There are plenty of scrub companies that design great fitting scrubs that show off your beautiful curves while still adhering to dress code and comfort requirements. As a nurse in Manhattan, I refuse to compromise the way I look in and out of the hospital, besides I'm still living in my Grey's Anatomy fantasy and waiting for my McDreamy...
